Welcome to School to Home Connection
Hello! This is my 16th year as Coordinator for the School to Home Connection Program. This program is for students who may need an extra boost to help them work up to their potential. Students are referred by their classroom teachers, and work with Community Helper Tutors—usually once each week in individual 30 minute periods on classroom assignments. In the past, 3rd-5th grade students have also had adult Community Pen Pals, with whom they shared friendship through monthly written correspondence. Some children will be doing this again this year; however, we’ll also begin an adult Lunch Buddy program this year—positive role models sharing lunchtime, offering a listening ear, and supporting some of our students in a new face-to-face format.

We’ll be scheduling several Family Night activities this year. Watch this site, along with the school newsletter and your child’s backpack, for information and sign-up sheets.
It’s important to remember our children’s learning not only requires commitment and work from teachers and students. It’s also a commitment for parents, who can encourage, support, listen, and help by asking questions and being involved with their child’s education. Sometimes involvement is as simple as asking your child what he learned that day or checking the backpack and making sure the homework is done. Sometimes it’s signing the agenda book, listening to your child read his weekly story, quizzing on spelling words, math facts, science or social studies vocabulary words. At times, it’s consulting with your child’s teacher about the best way your child can be successful. Each child has great opportunities at BES. Please help him make the most of those possibilities by encouraging his very best work and helping him grow and learn all he can.
